Micro-quake reported along Dorchester Rd. | News
SUMMERVILLE, SC (WCSC)- Shoppers at Walmart on Dorchester Road may have felt a slight shake late Wednesday night.
A 1.4-magnitude micro-quake was reported along Dorchester Rd. around 11:16 p.m. Wednesday, according to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). The quake originated near the intersection of Dorchester Rd. and Beacon Hill Ln.
A micro-quake is low intensity earthquake with a magnitude of 2.0 or less.
Summerville was previously hit with a minor earthquake on Tuesday, January 29. That micro-quake, which also registered a 1.4-magnitude, was in the area of Hwy 61 and Dogwood Ridge.
It has been more than 100-years since Charleston suffered one of the most devastating earthquakes in U.S. history, but smaller earthquakes are not uncommon. Officials say South Carolina has about a dozen small earthquakes a year.
